Odoo

AI chatbot for Odoo

Odoo already has a database. doo.mcp is the layer in front of it: a shopper on the website who should never receive staff tools, and a staff agent that still acts as the employee who asked.

Two different chatbots, on purpose

The eCommerce Agent talks to shoppers. It searches published products, shares the website cart, and checks out on your payment page. It starts free.

The Odoo Agent talks to employees. It searches, creates, and updates records as the person who asked, so that person’s access rights apply. It is a separate subscription, in beta, with no free plan. Requests for passwords, API keys, and security groups are refused. The Odoo AI agent guide covers that one in full.

How to add an AI chatbot to your Odoo website

This is the whole path for the shopper bot, from signup to a chat bubble on your shop. You need admin access to your Odoo 19 database and a few policy pages to train on. The first five steps build the bot. The last two check it before real shoppers see it.

  1. Check your Odoo version and apps

The connector is built for Odoo 19. Your database needs the Website, eCommerce, and Live Chat apps, because the Connect add-on lists all three as dependencies. Odoo 16, 17, and 18 are planned and not available yet. On one of those versions, the website chatbot still works, because it only reads your pages.

  2. Create a doo.mcp workspace

Sign up with your email. The Free plan needs no card and does not expire. Your workspace is its own tenant, so nothing in it is visible to another workspace.

  3. Connect your Odoo store

Enter the store address and say how it is hosted: Odoo Online, Odoo.sh, or self-hosted. Then authorise it. The Connect add-on opens an Odoo login in a popup on your own domain and creates a scoped API key, so the dashboard never stores your password. If you would rather, paste an Odoo API key you made yourself.

  4. Install the Connect add-on on the website

Download doomcp Connect from the dashboard, put it in your add-ons path, update the Apps list, and install it. Then click Install on Odoo website in the dashboard. The add-on loads the chat bubble from your own shop pages, so the chat and /shop/cart share one shopper session. Odoo Live Chat is not used for this bubble.

  5. Teach it your policies

Paste shipping, returns, and sizing text or upload files, up to 40 documents. Prices, stock, and order data are never trained. They are read from your store at the moment the shopper asks.

  6. Style it and test it in the simulator

Pick a colour, a greeting, a welcome banner, and an avatar. Chat in the dashboard playground first. Then open the website simulator, which loads your real shop with the widget on it, so you see what a shopper sees.

  7. Add to the cart and check the bag

On your shop, ask for a product, add it, and look at the bag in the page header. If it changed, the chat and the website share a cart and you are live. Read the first threads in the conversations inbox, and edit or switch off any document that produced a weak answer.

doo.mcp vs Odoo Live Chat vs Odoo 19’s built-in AI

These three are easy to confuse, and they are not rivals in every row. Odoo Live Chat is a way for your people to talk to visitors. Odoo 19’s AI app can put an AI agent on that chat. doo.mcp is a sales chat that works the catalog and the cart. The table sticks to what Odoo documents for version 19, with a source link on each claim about Odoo.

When Odoo’s built-in AI is enough

The built-in option is enough when the job is answering visitor questions from material you already keep in Odoo, such as Knowledge articles, Documents, or PDFs, and passing contact details to your sales team. It runs in your own database, it is set up next to your other apps, and you add no second vendor. If most visitors who chat are prospects and the goal is a lead, the lead creation topic on the Livechat AI Agent is built for exactly that.

It is also enough when your Odoo plan already includes the AI app and your team is happy to configure agents inside Odoo. Ask AI is aimed at people already working in the database.

Choose doo.mcp when the shopper has to do something, not just ask. Searching the live catalog, checking stock for a size, adding to the cart the page header shows, reviewing an order, and paying on your checkout is a sales flow, not a support flow. Choose it too when you want WhatsApp or a mobile API, or when your database does not have Odoo’s AI app. And plain Live Chat is the right call when you want people, not a bot, answering visitors.

A sample shopper conversation, from question to checkout

Here is one thread on an Odoo 19 store. The grey tags are real calls to the store. The bot says only what those calls return.

  1. ShopperDo you have trail running shoes under $100?

  2. search_products3 results from your catalog
  3. BotYes, three fit: Aero runner $89, Trail runner $95, and Court classic $79. Want details on any of them?

  4. ShopperIs the Trail runner in size 9?

  5. check_inventorySize 9: in stock
  6. BotYes, size 9 is in stock. Should I add it to your cart?

  7. ShopperAdd it.

  8. add_to_cartTrail runner, size 9, quantity 1
  9. BotAdded. Your cart has one item, and the bag in the page header matches.

  10. ShopperCheck out.

  11. prepare_order_reviewTotal $95.00 incl. tax
  12. BotOrder review: Trail runner, size 9, $95.00 including tax. Confirm, change, or cancel?

  13. ShopperConfirm.

  14. BotConfirmed. Pay on your store’s checkout page to finish the order.

If size 9 had been out of stock, the reply would have said so, and the bot would not have offered to add it. A price in the answer is a price the store returned a moment earlier. Nothing is created until the shopper confirms, and the card is entered on your own checkout. doo.mcp does not collect it.

What is free and what is paid for Odoo stores

Each agent is its own subscription, so the shopper bot and the staff agent are priced separately. The Free eCommerce Agent is the website widget on one Odoo store, with no card and no expiry. Paid checkout is opening soon, and the prices on the pricing page are the ones that will be charged.

  • Free, $0: 1,000 AI responses a month for one Odoo store. Search, cart, checkout, human handoff, and the website widget with a small ad.
  • Starter, $99 a month: 25,000 AI responses, order status, the read-only MCP endpoint, image search, voice notes, WhatsApp, and an ad-free widget.
  • Growth, $199 a month: 150,000 AI responses, an AI voice call inside the shop chat, a branded widget, and premium layouts.
  • Scale, $349 a month: 1,000,000 AI responses with the Growth features.
  • Odoo Agent for staff: paid only, in beta, from $49 a month ($40 a month billed yearly). There is no free plan, and paid checkout is opening soon.

A reply the bot writes, or an action it takes such as a search or a cart change, counts as one AI response. A shopper’s own message does not. The cap belongs to the eCommerce Agent, and it is not shared with other agents. WhatsApp is part of the paid plans. The Odoo WhatsApp chatbot guide has the detail.

What the shopper is not given

A public widget is not a general Odoo toolset. The commerce MCP for Claude and Cursor, on paid plans, is read-only: search, product details, and stock. Cart and checkout stay on the website widget, WhatsApp, and the mobile API.

If you only want answers on the Odoo website

Use the Chatbot Agent when the job is policies, services, and pages, with no live cart. It does not need an Odoo connection. Use the eCommerce Agent when the chat has to sell from the catalog. The store version and the website version each have their own guide.

Questions

Does this replace Odoo’s own MCP?
No. Odoo’s MCP is for an employee who already has a login and an AI client. The eCommerce Agent is for a shopper who does not.
Which Odoo versions work?
Odoo 19 is the live connector. Odoo 16, 17, and 18 are planned and not available yet.
Can staff use the same free bot?
The free bot is the shopper widget. The staff Odoo Agent is a paid beta, from $49 a month, and it follows that employee’s record rules.
How long does setup take?
Connecting the store, adding policies, and installing the add-on are three short jobs. The slow part is usually deciding which policies to train. You can test everything in the simulator before a shopper sees the bot.
Do I have to install the Connect add-on?
The add-on is what loads the chat bubble on your Odoo website and keeps the chat on the shopper’s own cart. It also authorises the store through an Odoo login popup. If you prefer, you can authorise the store with an Odoo API key instead.
Does it work on Odoo Community or Enterprise?
The add-on depends on Odoo’s Website, eCommerce, and Live Chat apps, and the store connection uses an Odoo API key. We support Odoo Online, Odoo.sh, and self-hosted databases on version 19. Odoo’s own AI app is a different matter, because its availability depends on your Odoo edition and plan. Check Odoo’s documentation for your version before you count on it.
What can the bot read or change in my Odoo database?
The shopper bot uses the store connection you set up. Its tools are product search, product details, stock, the shopper’s cart, order review, and checkout. It is not given tools for contacts, invoices, or settings. Connector secrets are encrypted at rest, and there is no standing copy of your whole Odoo database.
Does it replace Odoo Live Chat?
No. Live Chat stays installed, and your operators can keep using it. On the website where the doo.mcp bubble runs, the add-on switches off Live Chat’s own shop button so shoppers see one bubble, not two.
What happens when a shopper wants a person?
The AI pauses and the thread is flagged in the shared inbox in your doo.mcp dashboard. Your team replies from there. A handoff left open for about two hours returns to the AI.
Can it sell on WhatsApp as well?
Yes, on the paid eCommerce plans. It is the same agent and the same store connection. See the Odoo WhatsApp chatbot guide.
Will it invent prices or stock levels?
No. Prices, stock, and order data come from calls to your store, and the agent is instructed never to state them from memory.
